Spikes

Some of the art I like and sometimes even purchase is scrutinized by some friends.
They say, "You could have done that!"
Um, no I couldn't.

Title: THE SPIKES

BALCONYTV.COM 1/11/2007
PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT
Since their polished summer '06 debut 'Monster', The Spikes have followed up with the critically acclaimed, 'In Love No More' and current release 'Ninja Girlfriend'.
Described by the Irish Times as 'energetic, stylish', The Spikes unleashed their quality sound on the Dublin music scene little over a year ago, the stage show that has been turning heads ever since is unmatched amongst their peers and has not gone unnoticed in industry circles.
From bizarre beginnings in New Zealand in 2004 The Spikes have successfully set about re-establishing the niche for the rock 'n' roll four-piece. The combination of Peter Redmond, Gareth Lewis and Aaron Mulhall bring a mesmerising pulse to the group while front man Tom Dunne delivers not only the outfit's drive but 'a vocal performance that puts one in mind of a stripped-down The Zutons, with more than a hint of Joy Division.' - Hotpress
'Monster' was a hugely positive debut for The Spikes, securing a placing in the Irish Singles Chart on its release and making a mark for independent Irish artists. 'In Love No More' saw The Spikes add to their rapidly growing fan base and maintain their reputation for 'a killer melody' and 'thrillingly sleazy...production' -- Metro. Ninja Girlfriend, a piece of live genius with an unSpikes like tempo, promises more and brings a further element of continental sauciness! If you haven't caught the show yet you need to witness one of the Spikes' forthcoming performances - as The Irish Times have noted, 'The Spikes...show the rest how it's done'!

Inglorious Basterds

Quentin, I really, really love you.

I know that whatever the genre or storyline you choose, I'm going to be supremely entertained from the opening scene to the final credits. You can make a dark subject pretty darn funny and fulfilling.

Inglorious Basterds was just such a movie. Really graphic violence that included scalping, skin carving, baseball bat beating, and swiss-cheese bullet-holing was actually really necessary for the ultimate Nazi-killing escapade. Entire families being likened to "rats" and being exterminated as such was crucial to the awesome payback at the end of the movie. Women were strong and vengeful, even if they had to show their painted toes...we all are quite aware of Quentin's foot fetish by now, right?

Now, this movie was not the oeuvre everyone was saying it would be...I mean, Pulp Fiction can only happen once. But this was a really fun, straightforward story about really sticking it to the bad guy...and sometimes, that's really all you need.
